Miss widget has discovered the heating grate in the computer room, and has spent the last 10 minutes happily running one of her plastic toys over the grate, making noise and feeling the vibrations. And now she's chasing the cat again.

Okay, I should have finished this last night, but work interfered. (More on that later).

I happened across this story while randomly surfing yesterday. To save your friends pages, I'm going rant about it over here. Read more... )

Yesterday, I was cranky. I've shared this already. Then, I inherited a call of much suckitude from Ms. Arwen. Not through any fault of her own, but because that's the nature of working the closing shift.

I ended up at the office until almost 10:00. Since I was on first pager, and was going to end up helping the customer anyway, I stayed at the office where I had all my resources close at hand.

Getting stuck there should have pissed me off. It's after hours; since I work a 10 hour day these days, I ended up with a 13 hour shift. And we'd planned a lovely dinner, and I was tired from staying up too late. But for some reason, it didn't.

I finally felt like there was a reason I go in every day. I finally had something to do, something that challenged me, and made me try new things. In the end, it didn't work, but at least I tried. It helped that the customer was nice, and didn't get mad when I didn't know all the answers, and accepted it when I said nothing would work besides rolling back to a backup.

At the end of it I came home exhausted, but curiously happy. Of course, that was helped by Wiley preparing a nummy dinner, and having a chocolate martini waiting for me when I walked in the door.

We had a small flock of blue jays patronizing our bird feeder for about an hour today. They were lovely to watch - I can see the tree and bird feeder from my desk.

Aaaaaaand, I've got my first flowers! Gala helped me plant a bunch of bulbs last fall, and the first of the crocuses are coming out. They're not quite bloomed yet, but they make me smile every time I drive past them. Yay!
