A little wee essay that I wrote for a contest has been selected as a finalist!

We were supposed to write about one of our best memories or stories about nature, and I wrote about seeing a lunar eclipse while hiking in New Hampshire with my dad when I was little.

All of my best nature stories start off with my Dad.
Every summer, we hiked in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I loved those trips, but the best was when we stayed at Lonesome Lake, on a night that there was a lunar eclipse.
Dad woke us up in the middle of the night, and with some of the other hikers, we walked out to the lake to see a moon that was slowly disappearing.  The night sky in the mountains was astonishing, and I was entranced watching the shadow fall over the moon.
It was cold that night, and we were tired, and my Dad held us close to keep us warm.
I've seen eclipses since then, but none that captured the quiet magic of that dark night in the woods.

So, now I need to get votes to win the contest.

If you like what I wrote, you can use the button below to go and vote for me!
