This week's box contains:

2 heads of lettuce
2 bunches of kale - 1 "regular" and 1 russian
1 head of bok choy
3 bunches of beets - 1 golden, and 1 (at least) Chioga, I think
1 tomato
a metric ton of sugar snap peas (three bags, I think)
1 bag of shell peas
4 zucchinis
1 summer squash
1 oregano plant

I think that's about it. I think that's probably enough, eh?

It was my turn to do the veggie pickup on Saturday, and the pickup was bedlam. Totally stressed me out and made me cranky. Instead of nice pre-packed boxes, you had to pick all your own stuff from bins, and there was only one copy of the list of who was supposed to get what for the crown of people. It would have been bad enough picking up one share, but picking up three was insanity. May have to rethink this shared pickup idea if they don't get better when things settle down.

Anyway, this week, we got:

4 heads of lettuce
2 bunches of arugula
2 bunches of beets
1 bunch of swiss chard
1 bunch of kale
3 zucchinis
1 quart of strawberries
2 bunches of radishes
1 bag of sugar snap peas
1 bunch of shell peas
1 small flat of flowers (not sure what we picked, Widget choose the ones she thought were pretty)

I think that's it. A LOT of food. At least this week we'll be home to cook it all up.

I'm going to try and note down every week what we get in our CSA box, as much for myself as for anyone else. So many people have expressed interest in the idea that I thought it might be of interest to the rest of y'all.

This week we have got enough lettuce to choke a rabbit. At least 5 heads - two of a red leaf variety, the rest I don't recognize. We got two bunches of golden beets, a small bunch of kale, a bunch of swiss chard. The best is definitely the strawberries - a good full quart of deliciousness. They got a little smooshed in the bag with the beets, but I dealt with that by eating the smooshed ones right out of the carton last night as I was unpacking the bags. Not really a hardship.

Now, we're not real salad people, so I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do with all the lettuce this week. I think I may try to find a recipe for lettuce wraps for one night. And apparently, you can braise lettuce and serve it cooked. That sounds weird to me, but given that otherwise we feed it to [livejournal.com profile] whuffle's rabbits or let it go bad, braising seems reasonable.
