Chocolat Joanne Harris

I thought this was utterly charming, magic realism that worked for me instead of being a drag. I'd seen the movie and enjoyed it, but I liked the book more. It goes deeper into most of the characters, and definitely goes deeper into the enmity between Vianne and Reynauld (in the book, he's an actual priest, and not an overbearing member of the town). It's also a slightly different story than the movie, with more history, and outcomes that are subtly different from the movie. I'd definitely recommend it.

Phew!

So far, this has been a busy busy weekend.

Yesterday, Widget and I ran errands all morning, then heading into Harvard Square to meet [livejournal.com profile] lorac to spend some time hanging out. We explored Curious George goes to Wordsworth, which is a GREAT kids bookstore. After that we got ice cream, then headed to find Daddy in Kendall Square so Carrie and I could meet friends for dinner.

I can't tell you how much I LOVE eating in the North End. The name of the restaurant we went to escapes me, but it was delicious! It was also lovely to see tbons, and to meet her charming boyfriend, and to have fun for a night out with no bebe. But, when you figure that one of the morning's errand was the gym, and then that Carrie and I walked all over the Square and downtown, and then back to Park St. for the T, I was one tired puppy by the time I got home last night (but I still stayed up too late finishing my book.)

Today, Widget and I headed out to George's Island with the delightful [livejournal.com profile] rupiezum and her husband and baby. They were doing a "Make Way for Ducklings" concert in the fort. Had to get up early to get organized enough to catch the 10 am ferry. It was, however, a perfect day for the outing. Nice and warm, with a strong breeze to keep it from being too hot.

I elected to leave the baby backpack at home, so Widget led me on a merry chase through different parts of the fort. She had a lovely time, but watching Moira riding around cozily in her baby Bjorn made me miss the days when Widget wasn't mobile, and didn't really have opinions of her own about what we should do next.

We ended up coming home on the early boat, which was good, because Widget was practically falling asleep standing up on the boat ride home. (No, really. She leaned over so her head was on a chair, and I watched her start to fall asleep.) I tried to let her nap with me, but she wouldn't settle down on the bed, so she got popped into her crib, and she's still asleep (2 hours and counting). I didn't end up napping, and now I'm wishing I had.
