I went to a trunk show yesterday (for those who don't know, that means a designer or producers travels around to shop where they don't normally sell their goods to show and sell their wares for a limited time. in the stitching world, it usually means a designer ships around a large selection of models of their deisgns, displayed at stores for a limited time, so you can see what the designs look like) for a woman from Maine who does small batch, seawater dyed yarns. See her website here.

These yarns were gorgeous. The colors were more muted than I expected, with very subtle varigations and changes. The yarn was soft, and felt like the ocean. Like, you know how when you spend the day at the beach, even if you don't go in the water, when you come home, you feel lightly coated in salt, and you hair feels kind of rough. And meybe it feels a little icky, but it also just reminds you of the beach and the salt air? That's what this yarn feels like and evokes for me.

I loved it so much that I bought enough to make a sweater. The colors we chose are a bit of a departure for me, but I think I'm going to like them a lot. I'm very excited, but this is a project that I don't think I'll touch for a while. I'd post pictures, but I don't think my camera would be able to capture the subtle nature of the yarn.
