Oh boy

Looooong weekend.

Wiley's turn to get away for the weekend, and when the boy goes away, he means it... We saw him for about 45 minutes Friday afternoon, and then not again until about 6:00 on Sunday. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. The boy definitely earns his time off.

But oh my goodness. Three days of uninterrupted Widget-y goodness is overwhelming. Especially with the crazy questioning that never stops (Can we go outside and ride my trike? "No honey, not today." What can't we, Mama? "Because it's cold and raining outside sweetie" Why is it cold and raining outside Mama? "Because it's March, and this is New England." Why is it March, Mama? *bangbangbangbang*) and the testing of limits thing she's been working on as well.

I handled her best by keeping her as busy as possible. Friday, we went to the library where she got a PILE of books. Then lunch with Shani and home for a quick visit with Daddy before he left for the weekend. Then grocery shopping which she loves. The library trip involved TWO trips to the library, since she left a favored toy there (silly me forgot she brought it in).

Saturday we went out shopping for more pairs of big girl panties, since she'd managed two days of no accidents. I love Marshalls. Got underwear, a Dora overnight bag, a new puzzle, and the Martha Stewart 2003 recipe collection, and spent almost no money. Yay. We vegged out for the afternoon, then went over to JP for my knitting circle. Those nice women actually didn't mind having a two year old descend on the meeting. I'm kind of staggered. She was pretty good, except for right at the end, when she was overtired. I didn't get much knitting done (I hadn't expected to), but I got some grown-up company for a few hours, which was lovely. Foolishly, I decided that since she'd gotten to bed late, she'd sleep late in the morning, and I stayed up WAY too late.

This morning, she informed me that only Daddy can make pancakes, so instead we went to Dunkins and ate our bagels there, which we almost never do. This afternoon, we spent at my aunt and uncle's place - they'd invited my grandparents up for dinner, and invited us along. Delicious dinner, fun company.

Funniest spot of the evening was my 82 year old grandmother asking all of us if we'd seen "The Passion of the Christ". When we said we hadn't, and probably wouldn't, mainly not being fans of graphic violence, and asked if she'd seen it, she said that of course she had, and she'd see it again if she got a chance to. Aaaah, the power of religion. I doubt she's seen a movie in a theater in ten years. Certainly not one full of violence and gore as that one. But of course she'd seen this one. All I can do is shake my head and smile.

We came home, watched some tv, watched the Elmo video we borrowed from the library, welcomed Daddy home. Got a lovely phone call from a friend tonight, I'm worried about her, but too far away to be able to do very much about it.

We made it through the whole weekend with no potty accidents. I'm hoping that this is a good sign. Soon, onto night training. Before then, we need to find her a real bed. Quietly dreading this next transition, but there's nothing for it.

Now bed, because I am WAY too tired. Need sleep.
