Until tonight, I'd never had any kind of real car mishap - no accidents when I was driving, no significant breakdowns, nothing. But tonight somebody decided to break into my car while I was at knitting circle.

I'm theorizing it was because I had a Marshall's bag on the front seat - all it had in it was the $15 backpack I bought for the trip tomorrow, and they left that lying on the ground next to the car. They missed the laptop in the back seat, and the spinning book on my front seat (that I'd just picked up from the library) that's out of print and sells for $70 on Amazon and $150 on ebay (somehow the book really amuses me). Who knows, really - could have been bored kids.

Went back into the shop, called the cops. In theory they'll be calling me to get a report, but I may have to call them in the morning. Allison, the shop owner was surprised they didn't come down, figuring they could dust for prints, maybe catch who did it. I can't imagine why they'd spend the manpower on something so minor, it's not like anything of value was taken. She was a little freaked out though, I think both because she's there by herself at night pretty often, and because she wants her customers to feel safe. Can't say I blame her, but at the same time, this falls under the headings of things that I just can't get worked up about. Not that it's okay, but there's not really anything I can do about it. *shrug*

See, look, I'm getting better at letting things roll off my back *grin*

Glad you're taking it well.

I think that car thefts really defy reason. When we got broken into in Vancouver, they cleaned out the car filled with 3 months worth of a road trip. All our valuables were with us, so they took nothing that they could possibly want, but they took things which were worth a lot of sentimental value to us - Presents, my scrapbook which I'd carefully been working on for the 3 months, Napa Valley wine, and our Krispy Kreams for which we'd especially driven off the highway in Washington because it was the last opportunity to get them. Like, the last opportunity ever for us, until they take the requisite amount of time to take off in the Sydney store and they decide to expand to Melbourne. The LAST I tell you.

No really, I'm not bitter.

Glad you're okay with it though.

Damn. That's one club I wish we weren't both members of. At least they didn't get the laptop or the book, but hopefully the cost of fixing the window I'm supposing they broke won't be too prohibitive.

glad to hear they missed the laptop

And I hope they didn't do too much damage to the car!

Good for you for letting it roll off your back.

Blah!

Ah, the suck. :( Sorry your car got broken into, glad you're seeing it as one of life's stupid little things.

We do have dinner with Eric's Dad on Saturday evening, about 7pm, but if you want to do coffee before that, I (or we) would be thrilled. Tonight's an option, too! I'm still terribly jetlagged, so I may not be the most coherent of people, but I'll bring wedding pictures. I'll glue to them to my hand now, just so I can remember...

That sucks. At least they didn't get anything you care about, but still, the feeling of walking up to your car and seeing the window broken is just awful. When my car was broken into (New Haven parking garage) they didn't get anything "good" but they took my radio (since if you recall the radio in my vw never worked, so I had one on the seat) and all of my tapes. I was just so pissed off that they got all of my music. Lucky for me they were tapes and not cds, they just would have been gathering dust by now anyway.

Oh, and if they had been the kind of thieves to appreciate a fine knitting book, well, would be downright strange. (And kind of creepy if you think about it.)
