The recap

I haven't been posting much lately. Work has been crazy, I have my mother in law visiting, and we're going to NY for the next few days (yippee). So, I've been a little distracted.

Yesterday was IUD day, and I hope I never have to do anything that painful again anytime soon. I've already got my period, so I'm feeling none to great. Then I get to have someone smoosh my cervix open, and jam plastic rods through it to insert the damn thing. Add in that the first time it didn't insert right, and as you can see, it's a real party. According to my doc, most women don't have very many nerve endings in their cervix, but some do. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I quite literally had to bite my hand to keep from making too much noise. Now I'm gladder than ever that I didn't have to go through natural childbirth. But it's installed, and it's good for 5 years, is 99.9% effective and will hopefully help my periods get lighter (I hope I hope). These are all good things, well worth the 10 minutes or so of intense discomfort. [livejournal.com profile] sarahparah, I took Advil like you suggested, and then they handed me two Midols before they did it. I was very medicated.

Work. Aaaaah, what to say about work. We've been promising people this software for 2 1/2, 3 years? Suddenly it's super important. Maybe we should have made this a priority SOONER? Perhaps we shouldn't have sold it and taken PAYMENT for it before it was ready? This is NOT my crisis. Now I have to go to Denver to install it (I'm not supposed to be travelling), I couldn't take Widget to the doctor today (because 16 things needed to be done yesterday), and the "real" developers are just changing my design for fun (Like, the font sizes. If you wanted it to look like you did it, why did you even *ask* me to work on the damn project?). This project already has me stretched far outside my comfort zones, and putting all this pressure on me at the same time is just stressing me out almost beyond my ability to cope. I broke down crying last night when I found that the code I'd been working on all day yesterday just completely didn't work when I loaded it onto the machine. I was done.

Then there's the family. Well, family-in-law. Wiley reads this, so I'll hold my tongue on this one. Suffice to say, it's been stressful. Especially on top of all the work stress, and on top of having my period this week, which never does good things for my mood, it was not a good week to have to worry about entertaining a house guest.

And Widget. She's been fussier than usual the past couple of days, and this morning she had a fever of 101. So we call the doctor, and given that we're going away for the weekend, they say we should bring her in. She checks out perfectly healthy, but the nurse takes a look in her mouth (apparently had to pry her little gums open, she HATES having people look in her mouth) and says that it looks like she's cutting molars! Well, that would explain the crankiness, I think. Poor baby. And tonight, we get to stuff her in the car for a 7-8 hour drive to Western NY. I hope to god she sleeps.

There were good things this week, though.

The Indigo Girls concert was awesome. The opening band (K's Choice) was good, and the girls were amazing as usual. I missed you, [livejournal.com profile] biophile6. It wasn't the same without you. We had a good mix of new and old, lots off the new album, but still all the old favorites. They even did Kid Fears, with one of the guys from the opening band taking the Michael Stipe part. It was great. There were these weird old people in front of us (like, at least mid-60's old). None of them seemed to know any of the words, although they did seem to enjoy themselves, but I'm not exactly sure they were fans. And one of them just looked confused about being there. Quite strange.

We've gotten a bunch of rain, which is very good for my new plants. One thing I read said that a mature tomato plant can drink a gallon of water per week in summertime. That's a lot of water, and a lot of watering for me to do. I guess it makes sense when you realize how much water is in a tomato or a cucumber, though. I think that at some point, when we have the money, I want to look into getting a soaker hose or drip irrigation system built for the garden. It's better for the plants, it conserves water, and it can be set on a timer, so I wouldn't need to worry about it. All good things.

I had other things to write about, I'm sure I did, but now I don't remember what they were, so I'll leave off for the night.

See you next week!
