Wileyand I, along with [livejournal.com profile] lorac and her boyfriend William decided to join a CSA this summer. Essentially, we purchase advance shares in a farm's produce output, and we then get a weekly delivery of the vegetables that have been harvested that week. For me, it's a way to reconnect with the natural rhythms of the growing season... I'm hoping that by stocking my kitchen with the foods that are naturally available I'll feel a bit more in touch with living a more natural life (I read an excerpt from a book by a "suburban homesteader" a few weeks ago; she fed herself almost exclusively from what she grew on her couple acre farm. If I could be like that, I think I'd like it).

But, whatever my reasons for doing it, today is our first pick-up! I'm very very excited. We're not even sure what we're going to get, so it's a bit of an adventure, too.

I'm still betting on 43 pounds of turnips. Yech.

I remember reading about that when I was in town this spring. I'm really glad you and Wiley and Carrie and William all decided to do it. That's really awesome. :) YAY!

Kami was nice enough to point that out as well. Hoo countered with 19 pounds of Radishes.

That's an excellent idea. It'll probably mean that you get a larger variety than what you usually pick up too. I must admit that I fall into the same pattern of veggies that I buy every week.
