Took Miss Widget to the zoo again today. I love going there, she likes being outside and seeing the animals, and we all have a good time. Today's trip was made especially to see the world's largest bats that they currently have on exhibit. They were amazing. HUGE and transfixing. I probably could have stood there watching them for an hour if Widget hadn't gotten bored. We played for a while at the playground; Widget learned how to climb her first ladder (with some help from Mommy and Daddy) and she got to pet a goat!

We went through Butterfly Landing, and I think that was Widget's favorite part. Forget the giraffes, kangaroos and zebras, my kid wanted to see the 3 inch big butterflies that were 15 feet above her head. Weird kid. They had a few butterflys that had just come out of their cocoons and were still drying off. The cocoons were kind of creepy, though interesting.

I wish we had a better zoo in Boston; I wish the one we have hadn't gotten its budget slashed after we MA residents voted for a tax cut (No, I did not vote for the cut, but most everyone else did). I'm debating whether it's better to do a membership to the zoo (high membership rolls doesn't hurt when it comes to budget time) or to pay my admission everytime we go (if we keep going as often as we have been, we'd pay more in admission fees than a membership costs). I suppose we should buy the membership, then make up the difference in donations. Hmmmm, that might just be the ticket.
