All week, Miss Widget has been waking up early early (like 6 am), then going back to sleep, then waking when Daddy leaves for work, then going back to sleep, then waking for the day at around 9:30. This is unusual for her; normally when she wakes around 8:00, she's up for the morning. Most often, she plays in her crib until I can rouse the energy to go and get her (Have you guessed I'm not a morning person yet?).

Now, part of me feels guilty when I don't rush right in to get her when she wakes at about 8, but in truth, I am so not a morning person that even waking at 8 feels like an ungodly early hour, and so, selfish mom that I am, I frequently will lie in bed until she gets good and tired of playing with her bears, and I go get her in time to have her changed and dressed for running out to get Imagy for the day, or when she really starts yelling.

This morning, she followed her pattern of this week (awake at 6, awake at 8), and I thought I was going to have to go get her at 8:00 because she sounded mad. Then she got quietish again, and the next thing I knew, I was waking back up and it was 10:15! Which, of course, panics me. God lord, what's happened to the baby (as I envision her falling out of the crib, or choking on a teddy bear nose, or soething equally horrible). So I get up, throw on my nightgown and march into her room, so find her passed out cold, snoring around the thumb in her mouth. So, I tiptoe back out, and go downstairs to get organized for today's shopping trip and what all. She didn't wake until 10:30.

So, I assume that there will be no nap today, which makes sense... up at 10:30, in bad around 8:00 doesn't leave much napping time. But then, coming home from lunch with Miss Shani, I see Miss Widget yawning and eye rubbing, sure signs of tired-ness. So, we get home, I take her upstairs, she conks right out for a nap, and so do I. I think the last time I was this consistently tired, I was pregnant (NO, it's not even a possibility). So, I took a nap, woke up at 4:30 to a still snoozing baby, and had to wake her up to feed her dinner. I cannot believe how much this child slept today.

It did make for an easier day, though. First, I felt great for having gotten to sleep in, and it cut short my time spent with ehr by a few hours, which gave me less time to lose my temper with ehr. I'm pleased to report that we've had two Fridays in a row of no temper losing. This is progress. I'm not sure if I'm getting better at dealing with her, or if she is just getting easier to deal wth, but either way, it's a change for the better.

She tried to help with the groceries this morning - pulling things out of the bags and handing them to me to put away; it was exceptionally cute. She did the same thing with Wiley last night, except this was helping with unloading the dishwasher. I'm frankly surprised - I thought she'd be a lot older before we saw the wanting to "help" desire kick in. Not, of course, that I'm complaining. She's actually even really helpful sometimes. And watching her try to be like Mommy and Daddy is something that almost never fails to make me smile. Unless she's mirroring a bad habit, and she picks those up just as quickly. Especially how she deals with being angry... I've got a terrible temper, and tend to yell and slam things around when I get mad. And damn if she doesn't do the same thing. I feel like I have to watch my every move in front of her, for fear of what else she might pick up. I don't even like to bite my nails in front of her!

She's learning mosr and more wrds, and getting more sophisticated with her pointing and moving to show us what she wants. The other day, she pointed to the kitchen, so I took her in there. Then she pointed to the high chair, so I took her over there. Then she kept trying to fling herself backwards out of my arms into the chair. "Oh, you want a SNACK. Wouldn't it just be easier to learn the word snack, honey?" But she can ask for juice now, and she knows "cheese". "Dog" seems to double as a word for home, mostly because usually when we pull into the driveway the neighbor's dog barks at us. With a complete lack of self preservation, she loves dogs that are barking, and she's always excited to see Max the Cat-eating Dog. Today she screamed with excitement on seeing a big dump truck go runbling by when we got out of the car, and she walked a good part of the way we had to go to get lunch. She was smart though - when we got to the street crossing she stopped and asked me to pick her up (I had anticipated a fight, since she usually doesn't like being picked up when she's walking). Every day she gets more like a lottle person than a screaming bundle I have to take everywhere with me. It's pretty amazing to watch.

She's probably sleepier because she's a lot more mobile. All of that walking around and running and harassing Mommy and Daddy is TIRING!!

she's right

New skills are exhausting, whether they're motor or cognitive. Poopsie always sleeps more when she's mastered something new -- walking, talking, potty training....

Could be that's she's going through a growth-spurt, too. Then again, at that age, when is she NOT growing? :)
