I went and got my hair cut today. It started as my wanting to get all the damaged stuff cut off before I tried to dye it at home. It ended up being something a little more drastic once I get there. But I love it. I had my hair this length for a while before I got pregnant and adored it. I think this is a better cut for my face/hair, and I am pleased as punch.

This is kind of a before picture. It's about a year old now, so add another 5-6 inches in length. It's about the closest I could come, since I generally avoid the camera anyway, and once my hair got long, I wore it pulled back most of the time, so there are no good before pictures. When you add the length, realize that all the curl pulls out of my hair when it gets to be longer, so it mostly just laid next to my face flat like by this point.

This is the after. The stylist blew it out tonight, because I love having straight hair, even if I can't do it for myself. Most days, it'll be softly curly, since that's what my hair does when left to it's own devices. Best of all, it fulfills my Number 1 criteria for haircuts - the front is long enough that I can pull it back out of my face, and not look horribly stupid. This is pre-color. Hopefully, my color job will make all my hair about the color that the bottom is here - my roots are far darker, almost more black than brown.

I loved the stylist too, which was pretty lucky since I called up a salon I used to go to, and asked for their first appointment. I went in and said "shoulder length, maybe some long layers?" and he fluffed my hair out and said "Aaah, I think I know what to do!" then outlined his thoughts and how he thought it would lay once cut, he was willing to recommend product to me (I'm not sure what was with my previous stylist... even when I'd directly ask for a suggestion, she'd just say "Aaaah, they're all the same"), and took the time to show me what he was doing to style my hair, so if I want to try blowing it out, I'll have a better idea of how to do it. He suggested starting coloring my hair, and kind of outlined what he thought would look good and work with my natural color, and my gray hair. So, perhaps I'll have to find the money in the budget to try that again, depending on how things go tomorrow. I'll definitely be going back.
