Started out as a NOTGOOD day. I was cranky, the baby was cranky (those two things should never coincide, ever) and the baby nearly got put head first through a wall. No, seriously. But somehow, I managed not to. I'm still not sure how.
Then I got to go buy lots and lots of toys. Every year, my company celebrated the holidays by going to a toy store and everyone gets to buy about $200 worth of toys that we donate to charity. This year we went to a small, local toy store instead of Toys R' Us. It felt good to be helping out a local business instead of a mega-chain, and it felt good to buy lots of toys. I found a "Learn to Quilt" kit that some poor girl's going to end up with. I'm a geek even when I'm buying toys.
Then we got to go out for the evening! One of my favorite bands to see live, Five O'Clock Shadow, was playing at one of my favorite venues in Boston, Johnny D's, and we got to go! Left the Widget with her wish-they-were-grandparents, Sandy and Ina and off we went for yummy dinner and concert.
Seeing the guys perform again was fabulous - they've been getting real big and popular, and haven't been playing Boston nearly so often as they should, and when they have it's been at high schools (because they're really into music education) and not at grown-up places like clubs. And while I still don't like their latest album as much as their early ones, or really like the direction they're going in (away from a capella, into being more of a pop-rock, boy band kind of sound), they're still so much fun to see live! And they had a great opening act, called Traveling Matt. Another group of cute boys (one of whom reminded me a bunch of a TIM freind, Flea). A little overly earnest, in that college-boy, stoner kind of way, but a lot of fun to listen to.
And we got home way too late, but at least Widget was nice and slept until 7:45 and didn't make us get up in the middle of the night.
