One of the best things about this travelling stuff is getting to read in long un-interrupted stretches. On the plane today, I finished The Fuck-up. I think this may set a land speed record for me with a book club book. Anyway, I didn't much like it - it was really depressing. It felt like we were revisiting Holden Caulfield 10 years later; no smarter or wiser, no better at real life, and no nicer either. But it had an interesting ending, and I think it will spark some interesting discussion.

Then I read Two or Three Things I Know for Sure by Dorothy Allison. I thought I hadn't read it before, but apparently I had. I still liked it this time through.

Now I'm halfway through Callie's Tally, which Wiley picked up for free at his office. It's amusing and lighthearted; it does raise the interesting idea of teaching your children the value of their things and their lives, in a way, by keeping track of just how much money we shower on them, even if we only by the necessities. Add in just a little bit of new-mommy stress and angst, and you've got a pretty good, especially for free.

And, I've got American Gods with me for the flight home. I think I'm going to really enjoy it; I just keep getting pulled away from it everytime I think I've found the time to read it. Too many people I know have recommended it for it to be a bad book, right?

It's 6:24 am, and we're 88% done. Go go Gadget Server!

Did you bring a book to keep you occupied during the upgrade? Or no... I think it would drive me nuts to surf guest-friendly websites and play mah-johnng for 12 hours.

That is one of the reasons I wasn't all the way into The Fuck-up, it seems damned familiar from when we read Catcher in the Rye recently. Which I liked, don't get me wrong, but am not ready to reread.
