Ummm, almost weveryone I know? Seriously. Maybe it's just how women are socialized, ormaybe it;s a New England thing, but keeping up appearances is hugely important to most people I know. I do, certainly, have some friends that I can talk truth with; for the most part those, even people who I trust and feel close to don't know the whole story. I think, for me, it's a way of protecting myself.
That's really funny. We totally do that. I talk to Steph on the phone, Hi, How are things? Oh, everything is fine. And then five minutes later we're dishing on all the stupid things that are driving us crazy. I think it's a natural human thing to want to put a happy face on everything.
But that's also one of the things that drives me crazy about the "Hi, How are you?" greeting that everyone at works seems to use. Cause no one really cares how you are and wouldn't know how to respond if you ever did give a more honest answer than "Fine, how are you?".
Hee. You and I do taht same thing to, don't we? =)
You're right about the at-work thing. Most people don't want to know more. I think that's one of the reasons it's so hard to not do that; with the exception of a few people, you can never tell who wants a real answer and who wants social pleseantry.
That is really funny.
