Halloween 2002
Oct. 31st, 2002 11:19 pmThis year, Widget went as Piglet, the beloved compatriot of Winnie the Pooh. (Thanks again, Cran, for the costume!) We spent all day trying to teach her to say Trick or Treat, but by the end of the day she'd only managed to get one or the other right. We had lots of kids come to our door this year, and we took Miss Widget out to a few of our neighbor's places, pretty much just the people we know pretty well. She did know enough to say "Thank you" at every door we went to, even if she couldn't manage the trick or treat part.
Today was also really one of the first times she's had candy - we've given her little tastes of desserts and baked sweets before, but not a lot of chocolate. I gave her a test box of Junior mints and then disappeared like she was a vacuum cleaner. After that, she was unstoppable - kept trying for the bowl of candy (she learned the word candy in about 5 minutes, after refusing to learn trick or treat all day), and refusing to be fooled when I filled her old Junior Mints box with raisins. She so got rather attached to Imagy's Tootsie Roll pops, and grooved on the Almond Joy we let her have after her brief excursion to the neighbors. Thus is the candy monster spawned.
She's developed a new habit of charging towards the camera if she sees it pointing at her, which makes it a little tough to get good pictures of her, but we managed a few. This is the best for showing off the costume. For more pics, go to my website.

Date: 2002-11-02 01:45 pm (UTC)And yeah, candy is an incredibly easy word to learn. After a lifetime of saying lollies like everyone does on Oz, I picked up candy in one week of discussing all the candy I was going to get when I went trick or treating.
