Widget has developed the weirdest new little toddler quirk, and I'm not sure what to do about it, or if it's one that I should just let her ride out...

Almost everytime I tell her no or otherwise verbally discipline her, she smacks herself hard in the face, and then gives me this defiant look. It's very weird, and rather unsettling, especially when she does it front of other people or in public. For the record, I have never smacked her face, although I have slapped her hand a few times for infractions, so it's not something I've "taught" her to do, I don't think.

Thoughts? Any of you parents out there seen anything like this?

Doesn't sound all that weird to me, certainly not in toddler terms. She'll grow out of it in time. My response when she does it would be to say, in a silly voice "Don't hit my baby!" -- in kind of a "silly girl" sing-song sort of tone. She'll get that it's a goofy thing to do.

not exactly the same, but bridget says "sorry" or "sorry, daddy" or "sorry grandma" when she stumbles or bumps her OWN elbow or hurts HERSELF, not getting that the sorry is supposed to be when you accidentally hurt or run into someone ELSE... maybe it's a toddler mis-alignment of the "cause and effect" thing... like mommy reprimands widget so to reinforce it she also reprimands herself? i don't know.

(also, randomly, i just had a mindflash of a toddler-styled wrestling match or something, "BRIDGET vs. WIDGET"... :P)
