States I've been to and what I did there
Feb. 11th, 2003 12:26 amNOTE: I hit a number of these states on a cross country trip I took with my Dad, my sister, and the older of my brothers the summer I turned 12. We rented an RV, and wove our way accross the country, having lots of adventures along the way (but that's a tale for another time). We made it as far as San Francisco, and were headed for the Pacific Northwest when we recieved word that my grandmother had passed away at home in Connecticut. Thus ended our leisurely vacation, as we picked up and headed for home (and is why I still have not seen the northwest corner of the country). I also drove from CT to Tucson with my father the year I turned sixteen. My uncle was moving there, but couldn't drive long distances. We were drafted to drive his car out to him, visiting my grandfather while we were there. Imagine the thrill - I was 16, had my license for all of 3 months, and I got to take an awesome trip like that? That trip was when I fell in love with Tucson, and with road trips. I'm incredibly lucky for having gotten to make the trip, not once but twice, and I'd really love to do the same thing with Widget someday.
These may be updated after I confer with my dad on driving routes =)
But enough about me,
Alabama Been there twice for work. Huntsville once, Birmingham twice, and a one evening trip to Tuscaloosa.
Arizona Been there a number of times. Primarily Tucson, but I've driven through a good bit of the state. My grandfather lived in Tucson until last year, and I visited him three times. Tucson is one of the places where my soul feels at rest - even when I'm on the install from hell. We also hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon on the cross country trip, and overnighted at Phantom Ranch. And, I still have my slice of petrified wood from the Petrified forest sitting on my desk in front of me.
California Been there a number of times as well. My grandfather's youngest sister lives in Southern Cal. and I got to visit thm when I was 5 (with my grandparents), 12 (with my Dad and siblings), 13 (by myself). I also saw San Francisco on the cross country trip, and redwood country. I also visited San Francisco in 2000 when I visited my friend Elaine and her husband. I loved it. I've also driven through Death Valley.
Colorado Hiked in the Rockies on the cross country trip - Rocky Mountain National Park is where I saw my first hummingbird. Also spent a week in Denver this past summer doing an install for work. Lovely city.
Connecticut Ha! almost forgot this one. Born there. Lived there for 18 years. Yeah, I've been there.
Delaware New Year's. That's about it though.
DC Tourist things while visiting relatives in VA.
Florida Tampa. Upgrade from hell (parts one and two) this past year. Part three is upcoming.
Georgia Atlanta, that's all.
Indiana Drive through state.
Illinois Pretty much just a drive through.
Iowa Hee. Lorac and I drove 40 miles out of our way on the Stitch-in roadtrip, just so we could both count Iowa.
Kansas Another drive-through state. All I remember is miles and miles of fields.
Kentucky Another drive through state. Maybe. Nope!
Maine A few trips to Portland, and apple picking, and Freeport. Love the coast.
Maryland Visiting relatives when I was eight, or something like that.
Massachusetts Lived here for almost 12 years (Worcester 5, Boston 7), grew up 40 minutes away from Springfield.
Michigan Work trip to Pontiac. There's not much there.
Minnesota Start and end point for the Stitch-in roadtrip. Beautiful country.
Missouri Drive through state. Although we did stop and see the arch in St. Louis on the speedy trip home from vacation.
Nebraska Drive through state.
Nevada Drove through. Stopped in Las Vegas for a night, it was great when I was 12!
New Hampshire Countless summer trips hiking all over the White Mountains, including Washington 5 times. Many ski trips to North Conway. Love it there.
New Jersey Drive throughs, and Newark. 'nuff said.
New Mexico Visited on both cross country trips. I left my purse in a KFC in Albuquerque. Mom-in-law lives in Roswell; been to visit her once, probably going back this spring.
New York Many trip to NYC, numorous drives through on I-90 to Westfield, NY to visit Wiley's relatives. One trip to the Ithaca area.
