50 books - Book 6
Mar. 4th, 2003 01:31 amThe Lovely Bones by Alice Seybold
This was simply lovely and heartbreaking. Hopeful at the end in the midst of so much sadness that it left me sobbing, gasping for air.
The narrator of the book is Susie Salmon, raped and murdered at 14. She tells the story of her family's long journey after her death, as she watched down on them from heaven, wishing more than anything that she could be down there with them. It's about as sad as it sounds. Moreso for me, I think, because I could see myself so clearly reflected in the mother in the story, which briught it just that much closer for me.
I would definitely recommend this one.
