What a weekend.

Friday, Widget and I discovered a new playground, on the advice of my boss. Once she got the hang of it, she LOVED it. The best two things: there were other kids there, so perhaps, as she's now moving into the ages beyond parallel play, we can find her a little friend or two and it's close enough to walk to from the house, but far enough that Widget will have to go in the stroller instead of walking herself, which means I'll get to walk there at a workout-like pace instead of an ambling 2 year old pace. Whee! Then we came home and she slept forever and a day, it seemed. The combo of running around the playground for an hour, and her continuing cold knocked her right out. When Daddy came home early, we went back to the playground, and she had more of a ball, and a HUGE screaming hissy fit when it was time to go home. I made two awesome meals on Friday - for lunch, I grilled an eggplant with a miso based dressing, and then made Goat Cheese, Artichoke and Lemon stuffed chicken breasts for dinner (from this month's Cooking Light). Absolutely yummy.

Saturday, I was on baby patrol so that Wiley could get in what will probably be the last snowboard trip of the year. Of course, Widget woke up at ohgod-thirty, and was in a pilly mood for most of the day. We went to the stitching store so that I could order the additional silk for Elaine's wedding sampler. Then when we came home, she napped for a year and a day again while I started the massive loose end tying that always proceeds a business trip (two weeks of travel back-toback for me, more on that in a sec). Got a bunch of stuff done while she was out, then handed her off to join Lorac and her boy in Somerville the see The Bobs. Much fun was had by all.

Today, Widget slept in (as she always seems to do when Wiley's on morning duty), then he got up with her, and I started trying to pack for this damn trip. Then I headed to Marblehead for a small surprise party for Elaine, who turns 30 this coming week. (My turn is looming - May 16th. I hope I get a party or something). Had a wonderful time chatting with the folks there, everyone was super friendly and nice. Didn't get to drive through the new tunnel, but hey, it's going to be there for a while. Came home, put Miss Widget to bed, and mostly finished loose end tying.

And now, a whine:

I really don't want to travel this week - I've never actually done half of what this trip is for (but I know I'll be able to wing it), I don't want to go to fucking Alabama, I don't want to deal with the hell that is flying now that there's 17 more hoops to jump through at the airport. I have no clothes that work for business travel anymore Seriously. The last time I travelled with any frequency was January 2001 - that's over two years. Since then, I've been pregnant, gained 25 pounds post-pregnancy, lost 55 pounds, and put 2 years of wear into the clothes I could wear. None of what I own that fits matches anything else that I own that fits, and I have no money for a new wardrobe (even if I wanted to spend money on clothes that I'll hopefully have shrunk out of in another 3-5 months). I even went into Lane Bryant the other day, figuring maybe I should just suck up, at least get a few new short sleeve sweaters for summer travel, and they had nothing that wasn't either horribly inappropriate, hideously ugly, or both. I'm not quite skinny enough yet to buy regular people's sizes, so my options for inexpensive work-appropriate clothes are limited. Bleah.

AND work has scheduled me for back to back trips, which was the one thing I told Mike I really didn't want to do when we planned putting me back into the travelling pool. In addition to all the household stress this creates for me, it also means that all the planning for next week's trip isn't done, and isn't going to GET done, because I'm not going to be in the office this week to do it. Grrrrrr.

At least, next week is Santa Rosa, which will mean I get to spend an evening in San Francisco (Kieron, can you recommend a good sushi place in SF?). If I knew I was going to have a healthy nanny that week, I'd even finagle it to spend a whole day in SF, but I don't think I can count on that, and I need to book my tickets sooner rather than later. Being able to go out to dinner will have to be good enough. Of course, going back out there is SO going to make me want to move there; I still think it's may favorite city in the US - like Boston, but with better scenery.

All right, must get to bed, so that I can be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for getting my shit together tomorrow.

Have you tried L.L.Bean for work-appropriate travel clothes? Check their "on sale" page on their Web site. Earlier this year, I got a few sweaters for about half-price (~$20, which isn't unreasonable for a cotton-silk blend cardigan), and they're all things that I'll wear in future years.

I know what you mean about not having clothes that fit. So my weight loss since last time I bought clothes hasn't been as dramatic as yours, but they feel all frumpy on me. I've decided it's not worth buying winter clothes this late in the season, but I'm really hanging out for the warmer weather so that I can buy spring clothes that fit me.
