Shamelessly stolen
Apr. 24th, 2003 04:56 pmI've stolen this idea from the lovely
kungfoogirl.
Take a user from your friendslist, and share an anecdote about them. It can illustrate how you met them, why they are special to you, what you like best about them, you get the picture.
And like she said, if it's mean and hurtful: Save it. This is about the other half of human emotion, and I don't need to hear any negative crapola.

When she got married to Jon, that song came on, and I snatched her away from him. She yelled, "Honey, they're playing our song!" and we started slow dancing, and half of her relatives almost had heart attacks. :)

Date: 2003-04-25 06:38 am (UTC)mermil and I spent a lot of time in high school with a girl named Miranda. We took long drives on autumn nights, listening to "The Indigo Girls" and singing in harmony. mermil would sing Emily Salier's parts and Miranda and I would sing Amy Ray's parts. It was heavenly. In the summer, mermil, Miranda, and I would take trips out to Wellesley College's Lake Waban. We would eat bread, cheese, and grapes, and listen to Bach's "Magnificat". On hot days, we'd go swimming and make up super hero names for each other.
As luck would have it, mermil and I ended up going to the same university together in Connecticut. She quickly became one of the most popular kids on campus, and was a member of a comedy improv troupe there. We sang together in choir, and had great fun together. She knocked the socks off of her professors and ended up being one of the top students in her class. While I struggled through academics there, mermil cut through her work like a sharp knife. It was amazing to watch her grow and develop as an academic.
mermil loves to read more than anything else. She has a wide range of reading interests, and makes the best book recommendations of anyone I know. While Chuck's mom was sick and we were down in Florida, she sent me Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series, and it totally knocked my socks off. Not only was it a fascinating and comfortable read, it addressed some of the questions I was asking myself: what is the meaning of the life we lead? where do spirits go when they die? are we meant to meet a particular someone in our lives, or is it all just an accident?
Over the years, we've become closer friends. mermil performed a reading at my wedding, and I'm going to be one of her bridesmaids at her wedding. We talk over e-mail almost daily, and LJ has given us a new way to keep in touch with each other. She's just as funny as the journal entries she writes, and she's a stellar friend to have.
mermil has taught me that women can be funny without having to cut people down. She's taught me the value of hard work in academics, loyalty, compassion, and true friendship. My life would be dull and grey without her, and I thank my lucky stars that she's held onto me as a friend.
Sorry to go on and on, but I can't say enough good things about her. Feel free to check out her journal. It's well worth the read.
