50 Books - Books 20 and 21

Divine Secrets of the Ya-ya Sisterhood Rebecca Wells - This was a re-read for me, and it was interesting to read it from a new life perspective; the last time I read it, I was a daughter, but not yet a mother of a girl. Gave the book an entirely different feel, and I took very different things away from it this time. It is one of my favortie books, so if you haven't read it, I'd highly recommend picking it up.

The Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Alexander McCall Smith - This was charming. Set in Africa, it's the story of Precious Ramotswe who takes her inheritance from her father to open herr own detective agency. More about Precious and life in Africa than about any one particular mystery, I thought it was well written and entertaining. I'll almost certainly be looking for some of the sequels.

Now I'm reading Peace Like a River, and enjoying it very much so far.

I did read Little Altars Everywhere - I didn't like it as much, but I think I may re-read again too, see if my perspective has changed since then.

If you liked Peace Like a River, and you haven't picked it up, you should try "The Lovely Bones". Different subject matter, but the same kind of family story with a young adult telling the tale. Simply beautiful.

And thanks =). The nickname came from another on-line group my husband and I are a part of - most the babies born to "the group" get their own online handle, usually while still in utero =)

My parents liked The Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency too. I haven't gotten around to it yet. Apparently I really should.

It was cute. Certainly not a "book that changed my life" or even my worldview, but a good entertaining read. You're welcome to borrow my copy if you'd like.

I'm liking it so much I was sad on the plane when I was simply too tired to keep holding my book up, never mind concentrate on reading it.
