50 Books - Books 20 and 21
May. 7th, 2003 11:01 amDivine Secrets of the Ya-ya Sisterhood Rebecca Wells - This was a re-read for me, and it was interesting to read it from a new life perspective; the last time I read it, I was a daughter, but not yet a mother of a girl. Gave the book an entirely different feel, and I took very different things away from it this time. It is one of my favortie books, so if you haven't read it, I'd highly recommend picking it up.
The Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Alexander McCall Smith - This was charming. Set in Africa, it's the story of Precious Ramotswe who takes her inheritance from her father to open herr own detective agency. More about Precious and life in Africa than about any one particular mystery, I thought it was well written and entertaining. I'll almost certainly be looking for some of the sequels.
Now I'm reading Peace Like a River, and enjoying it very much so far.

If you liked Peace Like a River, and you haven't picked it up, you should try "The Lovely Bones". Different subject matter, but the same kind of family story with a young adult telling the tale. Simply beautiful.
And thanks =). The nickname came from another on-line group my husband and I are a part of - most the babies born to "the group" get their own online handle, usually while still in utero =)
