Had to run to the yarn store this afternoon. I don't really like taking Widget to yarn stores - understandably, most owners don't want a sticky toddler touching their stuff. (Granted, I made sure Widget wasn't sticky before we went in. But still, you know.) Before we went in I told her what the rules for the store were - she had to speak softly, listen to Mommy and obey the first time, and above all, touch NOTHING without asking permission. She repeated them to me, I told her that if she followed all the rules I would take her out to lunch, and we headed in. The store was crowded, we had to wait for assistance, and she still managed to follow the rules. The only time she pushed it was when she wanted to walk out of the store, but I hadn't paid for our purchases yet. Even then, a quick "If you don't come here RIGHT NOW, no lunch" worked the trick. I was very proud of her.

Surprisingly, she didn't want to go to 'old mcdonald's' or 'hamburger king' for lunch... she specifically requested the "clam restaurant", so we had a lovely lunch outside by the beach eating french fries and fried clams. MMMM.

aw, what a great listener you have! and what great communication you're teaching her. :D it warms me to see it... i'm a teacher, and i rarely see interactions as straightforward as that. :)
