That is always WAY harder than I expect it to be. Writing to second graders for In2Books, that is.

Remembering to use appropriate vocabulary (without a *good* handle on what they already know), trimming all my sentences down until they fel like little staccato pecks instead of real sentences. Trying to sound bright and cheerful without feeling remarkably dumb.

Eeeesh!

But my letters are written, and hopefully, this is doing good things in a school system that needs it.

I think I'm going to do my letters tomorrow. My books arrived on Friday when I was out of town. La la la - I get to write to third graders about Diego Rivera!

I had to write my geography letters on the fly because they sent me email threatening to ghostwrite them. It's not my fault they were due over Thanksgiving when I had no net access!

They have me in the "Chicago" project where we just finished our first cycle. The trouble is, they send all the books at the same time they send your books along with letter with timelines for your books.

Sometimes the stuff in the package doesn't match the books at all.

After all the guilt emails about how important it is to be PERFECT about what you do and how the kids count on us and don't make it hard on everybody else you would think ONE interaction would not be screwed up.

I have to admit I'm far less than impressed with this whole experience. From the very beginning for me it's been a mess.

I love the idea but I'm not sure I'll do this again next year.
