Wednesday morning, widget's first halloween ever. We've got her a cute little dragon costume, and we'll just be answering the door with her. No holding up the neighbors for candy with the 6 month old that, while cute in costume, can't eat chocolate yet. We live in this quiet little completely suburb neighborhood. I can only imagine the hordes of children we'll be seeing this evening.

And once again, I'm supposed to be working. Instead, I'm baking an Italian cheesecake to take to a Halloween food gathering at the office this afternoon, and posting here, and generally not working. Bad me!

So, I'm really starting to get into posting on here. It's funny, I keep feeling overwhelmed by this, like I'm supposed to be posting huge soul-searching, meaninful stuff. And this has been such a year, I don't even know where to begin with the posts like that. So. much. stuff. has happened in the last 13 months, I can't even think about it sometimes.

So, instead, for now at least, I'm going to write when I can, and not worry about how meaningful it is. Trying to keep track of where my life goes on its day to day meandering has to be at least as important as the all-encompassing mind-boggling life questions. Right?

Cute mom story.

So, tonight was Halloween, and, as expected, we had a zillion kids. It was a nice night, so we were hanging out on our front steps waiting for children. Wiley in his floor-length cape, and Widget in her little dragon costume. And up walks this little boy, probably about 5 or so, and he looks like a knight, complete with plastic breastplate and sword. So I ask him if he is a knight, and he says "No, I'm ummmm..., ummmmm, I keep forgetting. Mom?" She hollers up that he's a dragonslayer, and he says "Yeah, a DragonSlayer!". And I laugh, and say "well, then I'm going to give you lots and lots of candy so you'll go away without slaying our dragon. We'd like to keep her". And give this adorable little kid a giant handful of candy.

And Widget decides that this is the right time to practice her new noise, a loud half scream, half grunt, that sounds very much like a dragon noise. And does it over and over and over. We all (me, Wiley, our friends, the kid's parents) laughed so hard.

It's moments like that one that make this wild roller coaster ride worth it.
