Good weekend, except for Saturday's round of uber-clingy pain in the butt baby.
Saturday afternoon, we went to Border's, because my mom told me they had all their bargain books on sale for Buy 2, Get 1 Free. Sadly, the books were quite picked over, and the gardening books were still muy expensive. I got a Beatrix Potter collection for Widget, Wiley got a couple of books. I got a cookbook, a pretty little binder notebook for collecting recipes, and a future Christmas present for someone. We didn't do much besides that, and you know, general family hanging out stuff.
Yesterday, we were busy busy busy. Wiley got up early with Miss Widget, and they watched the F1 race, then he went out to the grocery store. When Widget napped, I hosed myself down with bug spray and went outside to weed. I got no mosquito bites, but I got a lot of repellant sweated into my eyes and on my lips (Yuck!). It was nice to be able to concentrate on weeding without maintaining a constant mosquito vigil, though so I'll probably continue to do it. Wiley helped me weed for a bit after he worked on his bike for a while. We also wrestled the largest tomato plant into a cage. That was a piece of work. Next year, the cages go up first... I've never had tomatoes do so well that I needed cages for them, and I didn't think this year would be any different. We knocked a couple of green ones lose and broke one of the stems. Hopefully he'll recover. After that I couldn't stand it, and harvested my cucumuber. Sliced it up and ate it, sharing it with Wiley. Oh dear god, was it good. Nice and tender, without the skin being too thick, still a little bit warm from being out in the sun. It was good to have someone to share it with too... for all I call this "my" garden, Wiley helped a lot in getting it in and helps a lot with remembering to water it and stuff like that - I probably could do it on my own, but it's good to have the help.
After waking Miss Widget from her nap, we headed to
hoo and
gala's for a BBQ, and to admire their new deck. Had a good time over there - they cooked some yummy food, and I got to see some friends that I haven't seen in an age, which was lovely.
Then off to Miss Dory's for mussels (harvested by her!) and then to a play. Well, it was a collection of short skits all performed by a women's comedy troupe, and I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Some of the skits were just a little weird, but the rest just made me howl. Think, a take-off on Car Talk called "Cunt Talk" with Clit and Snatch, the Twat Twins. Think Susan B. Anthony creating a vidoe dating profile. Think the internal monologue of an actress with one line in a bad college play as she gets stranded on stage. Think the hook-up conversation between the dish and the spoon before they "ran away". Yeah, hysterical.
Then home to spend the rest of the evening goofing off and doing whatever with Wiley. A good weekend.
