siercia: (telling tales)
Weekend was good. Northampton was... overstuffed and drunken. It was fun, but it felt kind of stale. Like we've done it once to many times, and this tmie, we were doing things because this was what we were supposed to do rather than what we wanted to do, you know? Seeing Ms. [livejournal.com profile] kieron before she departs for Ohio was wonderful though. And the food was delicious (as always). And the drinks were both delicious and plentiful. I wasn't all that into the hot tub this time - it was just too hot, and I wasn't comfortable in the water. *shrug* Shopping in Northampton, I found some inspirations for Christmas presents, and saw lots of things I'd love to buy for myself, if I had the money.

Woke up latish this morning, after being tormented by the snoring of Ajax all night, and drove home (with no hangover, thank god). Wiley dropped me at home, then went to fetch Miss Widget. He took her geocaching, and I had a wonderful fun afternoon of cooking up a storm. Hit the grocery store, came home, and burst into a little flurry of activity, while blaring chick music on the stereo. In the final tally, the White Bean Dip was delicious, the Curried Apple Soup was heavenly, even if I did add a little too much curry powder, and the mushroon polenta thing was only so-so. Lessons learned: anything with curry powder in it will stain plastic terribly, and my food processor is now neon-yellow green; polenta is both hotter than it seems and very sticky, this makes trying to spread it with your fingers a VERY BAD IDEA; everything always takes longer than you think and [livejournal.com profile] lorac makes a fantastic apple crisp.

But, I had enough time to get everything prepared, last minute cleaning done, and so I was able to completely enjoy the meeting, and I had more fun cooking today than I've had in a while. It was fun to be cooking elaborate food, it was fun to be blaring the stereo and dancing around like an idiot, and it was fun having the house all to myself. Now I have to go finish cleaning up the mess, and watch Sopranos.

Night all!

that the f*cking Yankees are out of it. Just this morning, someone mentioned the Twins, and we were chattering about the series and all, and I was all gloom and doom. "No one can beat the f*cking Yankees, they're evil, blah blah blah". Because of course, I'm not really following the series (the narrowly-averted strike soured me on the season), and I thought we were still in playoffs and all. Ha ha! Little did I know!

You can not imagine my elation when I came back to the world of computer-enabled to find that the evilest team in baseball had been defeated. (And there was much rejoicing. Yay.) I may even watch the rest of the series now.

My kitchen is clean, my weekend is over, I am exhausted. The good thing about having people over is enjoying the clean house for the next week or so.

We picked weird boks tonight for next month. The Fuckup and Ella Minnow Pea. I really liked the start of The Fuckup, and everyone else seemed to like the idea of Ella Minnow Pea, so we decided to try and read them both. I love the idea behind Ella Minnow, but I have a terrible feeling I'm going to find it very hard to read. We'll see.

Widget was funny tonight. The ladies and I were eating soup in the living room, and she walked in, and begged for a taste of the soup. She ate it, made a face like she didn't like it (it was quite spicy), then asked for more. Repeat until Wiley called her away to go eat her real dinner. I'm still not sure if she liked it or not. Widget has started callling me Mommy instead of Mama already. It's kind of weird, I feel like I only got used to Mama a week or so ago. Last week, she started with this amazing babbling - lots of single syllables strung together very very fast, so she almost sounds like a little auctioneer. I can't tell you how hard I laughed when I heard it.

My cat (Tuna, for thse who care) is weird. She's become obsessed with one of Widget's teddy bears. If the bear gets left out, she climbs up and sleeps on it like it's a fluffy pillow. Just now, I rousted her from it, she sauntered off, and I put the bear away safe in the toy box. Cat came back into the room, and started meowing at me, asking where the teddy bear was. Now she's sitting in the Lego box. Oh, wait, as I typed this up, she decided she needed to climb into the toy box to get to the bear. She's now shut into the box, with the lid down, in the hopes that she'll learn a lesson. Anyone want a cat?
