I decided to join the [livejournal.com profile] 50bookchallenge here on LiveJournal. Everyone commits themselves to reading 50 books in 2003, and posts about what they're reading. Yeah, because I'm not already over-extended enough. But it seems fun; everyone posts their successes, with mini-reviews as to whether or not they liked it, so if nothing else, maybe I'll pick up a few new books to add to the to read pile.

Tomorrow, I think I'm going to post my "things to do/finish in 2003" list, just so I can laugh at myself come December.

Found this group yesterday, and it sounds like so much fun. I'm very much hoping that I can manage to make it to 50. With work, my daughter, and my other hobbies, I'm not sure I will.

So far, this year, I think I've only read two books:

1. Simple Cooking by John Thorne - a combination cookbook and collection of food essays. I loved it; it made me feel all fired up to head into the kitchen and experiment.

2. The Corrections by Jonathan Frantzen - I'm still not sure how I feel about this one. I found it tough to get through, and I hated most of the characters. But at the end, I realized I'd enjoyed it, and was very glad I'd read it.

Currently, I'm trying to get through Fast Food Nation, which is pissing me off, and One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
