Long Day

As expected, this morning was a little rough around the edges. Edges nicely smoothed out by a trough of coffee before I even walked into the office. *happy sigh*

Worked all day, took Widget to Brownies - in a development that may be poor for my wallet, the site for her meetings is about 5 min. away from the Whole Foods that is normally *just* a little too far away to shop at regularly. Oooops. She enjoyed Brownies a lot, and had a great time. She's got her sash, and she can add the badges she earned at camp to it, which she's excited about.

We met Wiley for dinner at Bertucci's, then I stopped at Borders to try and find the calendar I wanted for the new year. Hahahaha. They had, like, 6 calendars left, none of which were acceptable. Found the ones I wanted and ordered them online instead.

Then our weekly evening conference call for the project of doom. I got spoiled not having them for two weeks. Told the site tonight that I'd not being coming back for go-live if they do it for the week they are targetting; Wiley is going to be out of town that week, and Widget is doing a ballet recital, so there's lots of rehearsals that week that she's going to be driven to, so there's no way I can be out of town for the week.

Realized I missed a deliverable I had promised before vacation, so am working that up right now before I go to bed. Of course, the software is being persnickety.

And my throat hurts. I hope I'm not about to get sick.

So, we broke out the Wii Fit at [livejournal.com profile] whuffle's New Year's Day game party. I wasn't about to get on the thing in front of a crowd, so I waited until we got home to try it out.

So far, I have to give it a couple of thumbs up.

For the most part, the games are difficult, but not so much that I just want to give up on them. The cardio games, at least the beginner ones are very well suited for a reforming couch potato, and I can see from watching Wiley that they get harder quickly. So far my only complaint is actually that some of the routines are too short, and then there's a little too much standing around while you find the next thing to do. If I were actually in shape, I'd only really be evaluating what I've seen so far on game play vs. exercise value, although I suppose that even for a fit person, any game that gets you off the couch and moving cannot be a bad thing.

The balance games are wicked hard. Even Wiley is having trouble with them, but I'm finding them nearly impossible. I'm sure I will get the hang of it eventually.

The yoga is fun, but that's because I'm already kind of OK at yoga. I do find myself wishing there was a mode where you could string together the poses rather than do one, get your 'score', select another. Maybe that comes at a higher level, or maybe there's be a better yoga game sometime soon.

Overall though, I'd say that it's gotten me about 90 minutes of exercise this week that I'd not have gotten otherwise!
