Doyle's knitting group
Jan. 17th, 2004 11:48 pmHad fun tonight. Went to a different Stitch and Bitch meeting, with different people (or at least ones I hadn't met yet). I really liked all of them. We started out at a knitting shop, but from there went to Doyles for a berr (okay, cider for me) and some food. Definitely cool, certainly the first time I've ever knit in a bar. One of the women there is the owner of the yarn shop, which has only been open about 2 months. She's had an interesting life, and listening to her tell her stories was fascinating and inspiring. (And
prunesnprisms, for an extra dose of small world-ness, in her first life, she worked for a company that made pagination systems (CSI, I think), that got bought out by the company Andrew, Dale and Mark all worked for.) We don't have a whole lot in common, but I think I'd really like to get to know her better. I hope we do more of this prticular knitting circle.
One of the other women there was really nice, but if you imagine the completely cliched 41 year old single woman who wants a husband and family more than anything, well, you'd know what a good bit of our conversation was about tonight. Felt weird to be 11 years younger, married for 5 1/2 years, with a family when I was talking to her. (Also for
prunesnprisms - imagine Jann if she were single and slightly younger and the cliche, and you'd have this woman nailed. Mannerisms and everything.)
I spent all evening working on something that I knew wasn't working, but I didn't have anything else to do, so I kept chugging along so I wouldn't have to sit there with no knitting. Now I need to frog it all out. I didn't even mind though, I was enjoying the company so immensely.
