Entirely of her own accord, Widget wandered into the office/playroom after breakfast, where she's been quietly "reading" books to herself for 45 minutes.
I just hope the school knows what to do with her when she gets to kindergarten and can read already. My kindergarten teacher had no idea what to do with me.
Well, I think overall, most kids are coming to school more advanced these days, so I don't think it will be as much of an anomaly. But if it seems like it's going to be, and we're happy with the pre-school I'm thinking of sending her to, we'll explore keeping her there, as they've recently expanded to include some elememtary grades as well.
Isn't that great? Punkin really isn't up to doing that on her own, yet...doesn't like to be too far from Mama (or whoever happens to have her.), but she will often play quietly by herself near me.
The other day she picked up 'Polar Bear, Polar Bear' and practically recited it from memory, and I nearly choked laughing when she picked up 'Pat the Bunny', opened it, and said in that same singsong voice, 'Paul and Judy, what do you hear?'
I know the feeling. We made a real effort to never refer to Punkin as "The Baby"; we always called her by her name (or the nickname) because she is a person. But I've noticed now that she's a toddler and not really a baby anymore, we more frequently call her "The Baby". And I think that's because she's growing up and it's making us sad.
