Wedding thoughts
May. 5th, 2004 01:01 amMy goodness, I think kast weekend might have actually been more stressful than the weekend of my own wedding. I'm not sure why, although it probably comes from my desire to see MIss
lorac have the most perfect day possible, when I was not nearly so concerned with "perfection" for my own wedding. There was a great deal of behind the scenes drama, but I've always held to the belief that what matters most for a wedding to be successful is aking sure the drama stays behind the scenes, so no one sees it (like my dress disaster, which had become something to laugh about by the time we hit the appetizers). In that sense,
lorac was a perfect bride.
The wedding was lovely. We had a beautiful day, so the ceremony was outdoors, just as Lorac wanted it. What no one could have thought to expect was the county jail full of hecklers with open windows and a clear sight line onto the ceremony. So they were married amid cries of "Freedom" and "Run while you still can" and the laughter of the wedding guests. Luckily for the jailees, Lorac found them amusing, and so didn't have to go kick their butts in her wedding gown. And my sweetie was very adorable charging off to try and find the shouters before figuring out that there wasn't much that could be done about them.
humanbeatbox had prepared a ceremony that was personal and touching and just right for the happy couple. Lorac was radiant, and the happiness and joy that surrounded them was nearly palpable.
The reception was also lovely - the food and drink was delicious and the company wonderful. Many people I had not seen in a few years; in some ways it felt almost like a bizarre HS reunion, although really only bizarre because you actually *liked* the people you went to HS with. I think we were sitting at the coolest table in the room too! I'm a lucky girl.
After the reception about 20 of us headed to a local bar (bridesmaids all still in our gowns!) and had a lot of fun hanging out and drinking and generally carousing. I think I would have been better off with *one* less martini (it's not a good sign when the waiter hands you your fourth martini, and tells you apologetically that it will be your last, as they have a three martini limit, is it?)
So, Sunday was spent recovering from over-indulging and waiting for Miss Widget to arrive home. And nursing the baby hangover some more after that. All in all, I'd call that a successful weekend.
