We're back!
Jun. 21st, 2004 11:08 pmFour days and 18 hours of driving later, we're back from New York. This visit was definitely more pleasant than the last, and I finally met Wiley's mythical Uncle Robert. Widget was staggeringly good in the car - seriously, probably no more than 90 minutes sum total of whining, none of it in longer than 10 minute stretches.
Finished the body of my sweater and made headway on the sleeves. Got most of the the way through The Bitch in the House. Got two awesome books on Natural dying from my MiL for a belated birthday present. Must knit something lovely for Wiley's grandmother for Christmas, or maybe just a random gifting.

Date: 2004-06-28 09:46 pm (UTC)I will say that a lot of what the women wrote about rang tru for me when I was reading it, especially the one mentioned in the review about choosing to be angry instead of accepting help when it's offered.
I think it's a valuable book, because, for me, it validates a lot of the feelings around the juggling act that make me feel like a "bad" mom or wife, when they're a lot more normal and common than modern mythology says they are (despite the reviewers belief that this kind of "tell-all" attitude is prevalent, especially in day to day life, I don't believe that it is). It gave me something to think about and to chew on, and a slightly different perspective on some of the challenges in my own life.
I'd also really like to read the companion book, "Bastard on the Couch".
