It is done.

Not yesterday, as planned. That was a giant snafu.

And, to spare your friends pages, .

So, it started badly. First, Widget sleep far past when I wanted to be out the door and leaving, so we're already running late. Then, it's pouring. I hate driving in the rain. I hate it even more in Boston, where, somehow, everyone else forgets to drive, and traffic slows to a crawl. And because we're crawling along, Widget gets fussy. So, raining, in traffic, crying baby. At least I'm in the new car that I love, and there's an interesting conversation on Science Friday. I pick up Imagination, and we head into Harvard Square. We're going to Chamelion, which is in "the Garage". She's planning on getting a labret piercing, and a second ring in her eyebrow, if they'll do both of them at once. We debate where to park, I call Wiley to see if he wants to meet me and go on a parking spot quest, or if I should just suck up and pay for the garage. He tells me to garage it. I decide to take a "quick" turn around the block, and see if I can find a space. We find a space. Right in front ot the place we're going (Bostonians know how unlikely this is. Trust me. It's unlikely). So, I figure the gods must be smiling on me. Because, remember, it's still pouring. Pop some quarters in the meter, grab Widget, and we're off. We find Wiley upstairs, right where he said he'd be. We head into the store where you buy your jewelry and pay, and I tell the dumb-as-a-stump register girl what I want. She draws up the papers, asks for my ID, which I discover I. don't. have. FUCK. No id proving I'm 18, no piercing. Never mind that NO ONE in their right mind would think I'm not 18, it's a no go. Imagy asks if I mind if she gets hers anyway, which, of course, I don't, and we head over to the piercing room.

Once there we meet Jean. She's the very cute, very nice, very tattoo'd and pierced woman working for the evening. And she and Imagy talk for a bit about aftercare, and the exact placement, and how much the first eyebrow ring hurt, and which one she should do first this time. She decides to do the eyebrow first, and I can't watch. She squeezes my hand, and it's over. She has a second metal ring in her eyebrow. Then Jean sets up to do the labret. This one, for some reason, I watch. And she has to stop halfway through, because Imagy flinches, and Jean doesn't want to spear her with the needle. It was pretty squicky, looking at her with a needle halfway through her lip. She collects herself, Jean finishes the piercing, and puts in the jewelry. I take a few minutes to ask Jean about the keloid that's formed behind my nose stud, and she recommends making a sea salt paste, and letting it sit on my nose for a hour or so, every two days. And she's so nice, she gives me a baggie of salt to take home. Now I'm doubly bummed, because she's so cool, and I'd love for her to pierce me. Damn.

And not being able to do it yesterday took so much wind out of my sails. I'd gotten so psyched up for it, so pumped up wanting it, that to not be able to do it just killed me. I was low enough for a while that I really wanted to scrap the whole plan. It was as if last night was the time, and the moment was just gone. Wiley tried to cheer me up, but I wasn't having much of it. We had a lovely Indian dinner, and watched Shrek. And he got [livejournal.com profile] kungfoogirl to call me and try to cheer me up. It didn't convince me to go back today and get it done, but it did make me feel better.

This morning, I decided I was being silly, and that I shouldn't let a moment of stupidity ruin something I'd wanted for so very very long. So, I worked my courage up, and planned to go back. Called IMagy to see if she could come watch the baby while Wiley held my hand, and headed for town once Widget woke up from her nap. Went in, paid my money, signed my consent form, gave them my ID (*big*grin*) and show them my tongue. Chickie looks skeptical, says I should go ask if my tongue's long enough. I go over, ask to talk to the piercer, and it's Jean again. Yay! She checks out my tongue, says it's might not work because it's a little too attatched on the bottom, but that we won't know without trying it. Which, of course, I decide to do. The worst that happens is I have to take it out, right?

We go get some lunch and come back for the appointment. Imagy and her boyfriend Damian take the baby, and we head in. We have to wait a few minutes, and I damn near started hyperventilating while we're waiting. Jean comes out and asks if I'm ready, to which I reply that I'm terrified. She gives me my aftercare sheet to read while she sets up, and I read it. She explains what I have to do, dries my tongue off, makes the mark on my tongue, shows it to me, and gets the needle all ready. I stick out my tongue, she dries it again, grabs it, and jams the needle through.

OUCH. As you can see from my face in the pictures, this was not painless. I don't think it hurt as much as my nose. But it still hurt. The feeling of her threading the bat through my tongue with the needle is not one I want to experience again, I don't think. We chatted for a few more minutes, getting the skinny on where she was moving to, in case I want to refer friends, since she's moving to a studio in JP right near where Arwen and Lorac live. Wiley ad I walk out to meet Imagy and Damian, and I started shaking. I think the wearing-off of the endorphin rush left me so faded that I almost couldn't stand anymore. So I collapsed onto a bench for a few minutes, collected myself, and we headed for home.

I can't really talk right, everytime I swallow, it pulls at the bar and rubs against the edges of the hole, I've accidentally cought the ball on the wrong side of my teeth, and accidentally bitten the top ball a couple of times, I tried to eat a piece of pizza and really couldn't. Hell, I can't even lick my lips, really. But it looks awesome. I can't wait for it to feel better, and get easier. Woo!

Yay! Yay! Yay!

I'm glad you did it. Jude is right. It looks AWESOME.

I'm very proud of you!

And thanks for calling me last night so that I could hear you talk with your little "freshly-pierced tongue" lisp. It was cute. =)

Congratulations, my piercing twin.

What are we gonna get next!? =)
