Looking into the abyss

I just endured a Widget birthday party, and it was like my own version of hell.
First, we arrive, and find out that it's an outdoor party. It's barely 50 degrees here, with a 20+ mile an hour wind. COLD. And we weren't dressed for it. And I have a cold. Other than being chilly, that part was okay. They had arts and crafts stuff for the kids, but imagine 20 kids and their moms all cramming around one table to play with glue and glitter and stickers and ink stamps. Then there was face painting, and ALL the kids lined up for that. We were late getting in line bacuase we had to go potty, so cue 45 minutes of Widget asking when it's going to be her turn.
Then,, we went inside for food. 20ish 3,4 and 5 year olds, and their moms, all in a downstairs that was smaller than mine (and as many of you know, my house is SMALL). Yelling, jostling, running around. All while the moms are trying to pay attention to their sprogs, and make small talk.
The whole thing was ick. I hit my limit after about an hour, but the party lasted 2 1/2. We left right on the dot of 1:30, and I felt bad for about a second that we left before most of the kids did - Widget seemed a little sad about it, but I was SO done.
I think it'll take all afternoon for me to get my equilibrium back.
