I keep hearing my cell phone ring, when it's not. This is near constant. I don't know if this particular ring is just like an earworm or if I'm actually hearing auditory hallucinations, but I'm constantly stopping what I'm doing, thinking I hear the damn thing.

Ditto for my pager. Last night, at 4:30 in the morning, I woke up, convinced I'd heard my pager beeping. Never mind that I can't hear it when it goes off downstairs, and the AC is running in our room, I got out of bed and went hunting for it, before finding it, seeing that it had NOT gone off, and only then realizing that I'M NOT ON PAGER DUTY this week.

ETA: I should add that this has been going on for weeks, if not longer. I think it started when my boss was on vacation for three (which turned into 4) weeks at the start of the summer.

Anxiety? Is there someone you are waiting to hear from that hasn't been in touch? Or are you waiting for something bad to happen and ruin your chance to go on vacation?

Auditory hallucinations are a common symptom of schizophrenia. Have you tried a cocktail of antipsychotics and SSRIs like Zyprexa and Prozac? ;>

Kidding.

It just means that you really need that vacation.

Ditto. You need vacation. With no phones and pagers. You're probably worrying too much about things that need to be done before you go...

Anxiety is a pain in the butt and I am so sorry you are having some of it in your life... I hope it goes away so you can enjoy the vacation.

HAVE FUN. Eat too much, sleep too much, have too much fun, come back so tired you are glad to get to work so you can get some down time!

And be safe!

Actually it is apparently a very common hallucinatino these days! Dillon gets phantom tremors in his leg, or did for a while, because he always kept his phone on vibrate. It is most often linked to stress or a feeling of detachment (at least that is what he was told). Granted, Dillon used to get very anxious and twitchy when he even just lost cell phone reception. :)

Freaky.

Sometimes, after my cell phone has rung, I'll imagine I hear it ring again if I'm in another room.

When I worked at a very busy pizza place as a teen, I'd leave work and hear the delivery phone line ring. And ring. And ring. Make it stop! Yes, work stress. And good thing you're taking a vacation.
