I think a lot of this is coming from my trip next week.

I'm not super happy with how I booked it, but I spent at least a couple of hours on it Saturday evening, and I couldn't find a better way to get it to work, I don't think. Or at least, not without shorting myself seriously on sleep and pinning everything together so tightly that even the slightest delay would bring the entire works crashing down on itself. Having built some padding into the trip though, now I feel like I am wasting time out *there* that would have been better spent back *here*

I fly to Denver on Sunday afternoon (choices were flying at 1, 5:30 or 8:00 - even the 5:30 would have had me landing in Denver at about 10:00 Eastern time, that plus getting the rental car and driving to downtown would have had me getting in late enough that I would have been seriously droopy at the paper the following day. And again, a delay could have had me getting in stupidly late. But, flying at 1:00, I get there at like 3:30 (Denver time) and have the whole evening to do nothing with (at least I know of a couple of good Denver restaurants). Have to decide if I'd rather stay at a hotel downtown Sunday night or just out by the airport. Probably downtown so I have a short hop to the paper on Monday (ideally walking distance, but we'll see)

At the Post most or all day Monday. My plan is to have dinner at Domo on Monday night, then probably drive back to airport, and hotel there for the night, since I have an 8:25 flight to Tucson in the morning. (Although now looking at it, perhaps it's not worth it - airport is closer than I remembered - but then why is the drive so darned long seeming?)

Assuming no delays, I land in Tucson at 9:25, should be able to be to the paper by about 10:15 or so - the paper is all of 4 1/2 miles from the airport. Spend Tuesday at the paper. If all goes badly, this is where things might get hairy. Only have these 8 or so hours with people in Tucson. Delays leaving Denver will cause problems.

Have 7 am flight to Oakland on Wednesday morning. Have a stupidly long layover at LAX (although previous LAX experience teaches me that LAX is the evil, and so all layovers should be heavily padded.) Now wishing I'd sucked up and booked the 5am direct flight that got me to SFO at 7:30, but I did not WANT a 5 am flight, and so did not want to try to drive out of city at rush hour. @duh, could have just hung out at the airport. Get to Oakland something dumb like 3:30. Drive to Santa Rosa.

At Santa Rosa paper for Thursday. Again, though, flights home were a pain. Could take a red-eye Thursday (again with the NO room for error) but somewhat pointless since W and Widget won't be home on Friday at all anyway. Could take an early flight Friday morning (I hate early flights) but that also leaves no room for error, since I'd not have time to be at the paper on Friday if I needed it; I'd either have to drive to SF Thursday night, or get up super early to drive back Friday morning. Neither allows for 9 AM meetings. I ended up booked on a direct red-eye from OAK to Boston, getting in at 7:15 on Saturday morning.

This works because if there are delays earlier in the week, I can slide my arrival in Santa Rosa a bit - if we end up with a half day Thursday and Friday morning meetings, that won't be the end of the world. It potentially leaves me with Friday to wander around San Francisco if I want to, which @duh, of course I do. I guess I'll plan to find a garage I can plop my car into and wander around on foot for the day, since driving and parking in the city does not appeal to me at all. I should figure out what I might want to do, although just wandering aimlessly has its own appeal as well.

I'm bummed that the trip, along with Widget going to my parents for the weekend, means that I'll not see her from dropping her off on Friday morning at school until I get home the following Saturday.

Adding to my angsty-ness is that I would really prefer to be able to go up to New Hampshire this week with Wiley and a bunch of other friends. Unless I can convince Wiley he wants to leave early enough on Sunday morning to drop me at the airport (bummer for him, yay for me) it's really not feasible. And then I'd need to find someone to cover for me on pager. And someone to pick up our meat share on Saturday. And I'd have to be 100% packed and ready to go for both trips by Friday morning, which would mean I'd probably be insane on Thursday evening trying to get ready. But, darn it, I've not gotten to go on this trip since Widget was born, and I was kind of looking forward to it. I know it's just a bad idea, though. Far better to have Friday evening and Saturday to get packed and ready to go and chilled out, since it's going to be a crazy week.

Hi, I can read. You'll be downtown. I live about five miles east of downtown, so this will be cake!

Early dinner would be great. Your timing is just about perfect, really. We don't start the going to bed ritual until around seven.
