I let me talk myself into a crazy early morning trip to the beach and told Widget about my idea. I've forbidden Widget from waking my up earlier than 6:45, but who wants to bet she's knocking on my door at 6:45:01, already wearing her bathing suit, of course?

How do I convince myself that things like this are a good idea?

easy. it was still 87 degrees at 10pm in Central Square. People start to convince themselves of all sorts of wackiness then.

I was trying to convince Widget today how lucky she was that we live right near the ocean, that we can just go there on a whim whenever we want. I don't think she quite got it.

Because it's the best time to get to the beach, get parking, and get home before things get crazy and waaay too hot. My mom used to bring my brother and I to Hampton Beach every weekend, and we'd be out running around with the lifeguards doing their morning warm-ups. We'd also leave by noon, and laugh at all the people stuck in traffic waiting to get there. :)

7 year olds, it seems, only take naps when deathly ill or threatened with grave bodily injury. *I* was ready for a nap. Widget, not so much.

That was all true. We got great (free) parking, the beach was wonderfully not crowded and there was not a bit of traffic.

But DAMN that water is COLD before the sun has burned off all the clouds!

Oh god. She, apparently, woke up when Wiley got up, and sat in her room reading and quietly vibrating with excitement for an hour before she woke me up at 6:45.

I'm not quite sure how WE ended up with such an early riser for a kid.

She's pretty good at entertaining herself in the morning. Normally she doesn't come in to wake us until at least 8 (and sometimes 9), which is good for everyone involved, really.

And she did had a great time out there, so it was probably worth it.
