  • Hancock was really pretty good. I knew nothing going in, which means there were no expectations to be unmet

  • Popcorn shells between my teeth are not pretty good

  • Wrangling a project when the principals on the client's side are 12 hours opposite you is really a pain in the butt

  • Which is why I'm on a conference call at 10 at night

  • Also, I don't like it when customers break into another language to discuss us on said conference call

  • I'm ready to go zone out on my couch now

Ugh. Okay, the whole talking in another language thing is also a pet peeve of mine. I hate when people do that as a way to talk about someone right in front of them without having to take responsibility for what they are saying. You know the old rule about "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" Yeah, that applies here.

I agree that sometimes its more a matter of comfort speaking in a foreign language as versus one's native tongue. Still, its irritating when people do it. Its more able not holding your side conversations till later than anything else.

this is one of the reasons CSI/Crosfield used to seek out staff who could speak the language of the client. Or else we would be put into language classes immediately. (That's how I learned Portuguese.)

But, your company isn't the same size. The projects aren't the same scale. (A CSI system could cost up to $2mil to install) And Chinese. Well, that's not going to be learned overnight. How completely frustrating. How rude of them. (You can't know if they're talking *about* you or they are simply more able to have detailed communication in Chinese than English, but it doesn't matter. It's rude.) And I'm surprised by people who come from a culture that is all about saving face and not making someone else uncomfortable. I'm sorry you have to put up with that. Big hug.

You have to watch this talking in another language. One of the casinos here is being sued because a couple of dealers made some really nasty comments about a group of women gamblers not knowing that one of them was a former Spanish teacher. Ouch! Busted big time!
