We have this bell that's hanging outside. It was given to us as a wedding present, and this is the first house we've hung it at, because we didn't want it to get stolen. It's like a wind chime, except it's just the one bell, and it's got a very pleasing low tone to it. It's not tinkly like wind chimes usually are. Because it's heavy, it takes a good wind to make it ring as well (a plus in my book since listening to anything too much diminishes the pleasure you get from listening to it).

It's very windy here today, and when I was upstairs putting the baby down for her nap I was listening to it ring. It's beautiful. It sounds kind of like a buoy bell, and it evokes wonderful visions of being on the beach in the fog with a breeze swirling all around you, with seagulls circling overhead while your hair gets dampened by the sea spray, smelling the salty ocean air. Mmmmm...

This pleases me greatly.

It's lovely to have a little noise outside. I bought myself a windchime for my last place, one of the tinkly ones you dislike:) I haven't put it up at my 'temporary' places, but doesn't it just evoke peaceful images and calming thoughts?
