May. 31st, 2002 01:02 pmI know I shouldn't rock her to sleep at naptime. I know it teaches her bad habits, and makes it harder to get her to sleep on her own.
But there is something good for my soul in holding her while she sleeps, listening to her breathe and feeling her head drooped heavily against my shoulder.
It makes me feel so calm and peaceful.

Sigh...

Date: 2002-06-02 11:16 pm (UTC)Rock children to sleep. Let them run and scream. Accept that they won't focus on things like adults until they are adults. If it hasn't had any bad effect on homo sapiens for the past several hundred thousand years, its not going to suddenly START.
I'll stop ranting now.
Hmmm

Re: Hmmm
Date: 2002-05-31 12:52 pm (UTC)If you rock (nurse/cuddle/sing)your child to sleep all the time, they'll never learn how to just fall asleep on their own. Since babies (all people, really) tend to wake briefly at times during the night, if your baby can't fal asleep by themselves, you'll be getting up twice a night to help them fall back asleep.
But, the 2 or 3 times a week that I put her down for naptime probably won't cause any major upset, so I do it anyway.
