Almost above all else
Jun. 14th, 2002 04:59 pmI hate uncertainty.
In theory, my father is staying here tonight, so as to spend the day tomorrow with Widget. I'm not 100% sure he's still coming, and if he is, I have no idea when he's getting here, if he's going to want dinner, or what he wants to do tonight or tomorrow.
We were supposed to host Lag Day this weekend, and a stunningly poor turnout prompted us to dial back the activities to just do something tomorrow, and maybe Sunday morning. At least one person didn't get the e-mail, and is coming tonight. I don't know how many others might not have gotten the mail, and so I might have 8 or 10 people here tonight, or there might be no one. Well, that's not true. My favorite
lorac is coming to visit, and bringing her boy. And maybe bringing Ms. Dory. And, so you can see, we're back to the uncertainty, and I'm quietly going out of my head. Sigh.
I'm really disappointed about Lag Day. I thought it would be cool, then pretty much all the people who said they would come and help boost attendance just kind of fizzled out. Most of them had good reasons, but I'm still bummed out about it. What a waste. At least dilettante is still going to come and teach me how to make Vietnamese (I think) spring rolls, since the restaurant near me that made them has gone out of business. I adore them, and now I'll be able to make them for myself!
And thankfully, Widget seems to be back to her usual sunny disposition. I don't think we've had a single temper tantrum today. We'll have to see if that lasts through vegetables at dinnertime, which it almost never does. She's been quite the good girl today actually. I moved her toy box into a room she can get to, and put all her toys in it. She had a great time pulling all of them back out, until she reached very far in for one, and tipped over, right into the box, face first. She hasn't gone near it since. Oh, actually, she's JUST gone back to digging in it. Let's hope that this time she does a slightly better job of balancing.
