I am completely exhausted. I'm not even all that sure why. Well, probably from the hour of hiking/walking I did today, and the gardening. Okay, I guess I know why.

Wiley let me sleep in this morning because he had an F1 race to watch. So, there was blessed sleep. Woke up to an odd yellow light outside - kin of like what you get right before a storm, but brighter. It turns out there's wildfires in northern Quebec province that are blowing smoke our way and making things very hazy.

Once Widget went down for naptime (blissfully, only an hour after I got up) I headed out to do some weeding. I kind of had to stretch the boundaries of my garden space to fit all my plants in, and so the lawn is heavily encroaching on one corner. I got all but the tiniest of weeds out and checked out my plants. The cucumbers, zucchini and yellow squash all have lots of blossoms, but no fruit on them still, the eggplants and peppers still seem to be doing not much (although they both have new leaves, so they're not dead yet). The tomatoes are simply staggering. I've never had this kind of good luck with tomatoes. I'm very hopeful for them.

Then after Widget woke up from her nap, we all went out on a walking trip to see the "reversing falls" in Great Esker Park. We can't go there with the stroller, the paths are too steep and dirt, but Wiley got the baby backpack yesterday, and that makes it easy. The path was really neat; we walked right down to the level of the river. Since it was low tide, we were able to get across one of the rivulets, and keep walking around in a big circle. The crossing was so neat - we had to slog through about ankle deep water, and there were thousands of little tiny snails swimming around, and there were mussels and seaweed and barnacles on some of the rocks. Wiley found a horseshoe crab that had washed or crawled up on shore. We couldn't tell for sure if it was alive or not, but if it wasn't it was very recently dead, and still intact. Very neat. So we walked and walked and walked around, and found out where the trail comes out if you stay on it. The bad part was that it comes out at the bottom of the very big hill, which may well be the death of me. But, I decided to be a trooper and hoof up the big hill instead of having to tromp through the river again. The marshes down there are simply gorgeous and wonderful. I can see myself getting to know those areas very well as I go for walks and hikes back there... as long as those nasty flies were just green heads that will be gone in a week or two. We got chomped today. For some reason, they kept landing on my butt, and Wiley had to keep brushing them off - it was nuts. I'm just glad they didn't seem to go after the baby at all, preferring me as a tasty tidbit.

Then home, and shower, and baby dinner, and us dinner, and now I think I want to go collapse on the couch and watch Wiley play Gauntlet.

G'night.

sounds like a great outting!

I love our backpack, though at 25 pounds, Julia is getting a bit heavy in it. Perhaps I need to readjust her position so she is lower.

The salt marsh sounds lovely, and will be even better when the flies disappear. I always loved finding horseshoe crabs when I was small.

Your garden sounds scrumptious! It must be wonderful to see all your hard work paying off.

Hannah, and 25.5 lbs, is good for a workout for me. A few months ago, she was two pounds lighter. I can't decide now if the reason my shoulders hurt more is A: The new pack isn't fitting me the same way, B: I haven't been getting enough exercise, or C: that extra two pounds of baby makes a BIG difference.
