When did it become a point of pride for women to be incompetent at "girlie" stuff?

I keep hearing a bunch of my female friends boasting about how they "have more power tools than cookware", or they don't know the first thing about cooking, and don't want to learn, blah blah blah...

Now, I am certainly not one of those people who think that all women should know how to cook, or clean, or sew, or do any of their traditional gender roles activities. I do know how to do most of them, and enjoy most of them as well, but I don't expect anyone else to, if it's not their thing.

But I don't understand being proud of not knowing how to do something. I don't walk around bragging that I don't really understand car mechanics, or football, or any of a million other activities I don't normally take part in. I'm not proud of not knowing them, I'm just mostly unconcerned with them. Is it a persona thing? Is it just another way to appear tougher, or cooler, or something? Is the thought of being skilled at something "girlie" so offensive that women need to prove their disinterest?

I don't get it. Why be proud of ignorance?

I dunno. I can't do a lot of those things, and I don't celebrate ignorance, I just think it would be really funny if I /could/ do a lot of those things.

I am a terrible cook. I can, however, bake. But the fact that I can't cook is funny. It's me. If I sat down and made a big meal, people would laugh. It's uncharacteristic.

But that doesn't mean that people who /can/ should be looked down upon or whatever. My brother got the cooking genes. End of story. :)

You can cook/sew for me anytime. WHOO!
