More cute Widget stories
Aug. 28th, 2002 02:20 pmI'll cut these. They're long, and not everyone likes
First, on Monday, when she woke up from her nap, I went up to get her. We were playing in her room for a few minutes before I left for work, and I hadn't yet changed her diaper. (I'm mean, I was leaving that for Miss Widget's nanny to do.) Widget walked over to her changing table, picked up a clean diaper, looked at me an said "dirty" (well, her interpretation of dirty). I just stared at her, and she repeated "dirty" and pointed at the changing table. I was agog. Did she just ask for her diaper to be changed? Now, it could just be that she's conditioned that her diaper gets changed when she gets up from a nap, since well, that's what happens every day, but still, it was pretty amazing to me. Now I'm all wondering when we can start toilet training anytime soon.
Then, today, we walked out to the garden to harvest some tomatos for tonight's pasta sauce. Now, Widget LOVES tomatos. They are one vegetable she'll turn down cheese for (cheese being her favorite food ever, I think). And she's been curious about the garden. Yesterday she watched me weeding for a while, and kept trying to "help". So today, when she walked out with me, I figured I'd let her "help" me pick a tomato. Well, she sure helped. Helped that tomato off the plant and right into her mouth. *CHOMP* I shouldn't be surprised. She's seen me pick them and then chop them up for her plate, so she knew what they were (wouldn't she have been surprised if it had been a red pepper instead?) and she knows she adores eating them. The tomato squirted all over her, and all over me, but she was so pleased with herself and with it. She was grinning like mad, and made quite short work of the poor doomed little fruit. I guess maybe she's not quite ready to be a garden helperyet, though.
On a less cute note, now that she's a walking girl, she wants to walk everywhere. Which would be fine, except that she never wants to walk where I want her to walk. Today, we tried to walking into CVS from the parking lot, and she sat down screaming when I wouldn't let her walk into the MIDDLE of the lot instead of the store, then we tried walking in the CVS, and she sat down and cried when I wouldn't let her walk down every single aisle (I was on a mission, with little time for dilly-dallying). She howled like a monkey when I picked her up and carried her, but what was I supposed to do? Boy was she mad. I think she gets carried around places for a while wtill. Thank goodness she's still little enough to pick up and throw over my shoulder, eh?
