wrapping presents. There is little on earth that makes me more pleased than finding the perfect paper, the perfect ribbon, and pulling it all together into something beautiful, all on it's own, regardless of what's inside. Good wrapping can make even the smallest gift more special. I get to bring just such a beautiful package to the shower tomorrow***. *happy sigh*

Oh god, my Martha Stewart is showing, isn't it? AAAAIIIIIEEEEE!

***Many thanks go to Mr. Wiley, for his 11th hour run to the convenience store for Scotch tape, since I belatedly discovered all I had was masking and packing tape.

I've always wanted to be good at wrapping presents, but I'm not.

It's not that hard - finding the right paper and "accesories" really makes the difference. My "technical" skills aren't that great - my corners are crumply, and my folds aren't creased enough. BUT, I always try to find the prettiest paper I can, and always ribbon that matches or contrasts the paper nicely. I find that 1 1/2 inch sheer fabric ribbon works fantastically, and gives it a pretty, pulled together look that most perople wouldn't have done.

But doing interesting things is fun too - my favorite for that was once wrapping a present for a sewer friend in a yard of gorgeous fabric I found on clearance. The wrap job wasn't great, but she got two presents with it, so she didn't care. =)

Anyway, what I'm saying is that it's NOT hard to make a nice package, you just have to plan a little more than you might think for it.

When I wrapped andrea's shower gift last week...the paper has small bouquets on it. So I went out into the garden, took clippings, made a small arangement, with an impromptu water resevoir wrapped in tinfoil and then wove matching satin ribbon, as on the package, all around the base of the bouquet. I used it as a bow.
Oh the shame of letting my Martha show back home in the Bronx with my "girlz yo"
