Cute Widget story
Sep. 16th, 2002 11:29 pmLast night, Widget had a screaming case of pink butt (aka diaper rash). When it's really bad, she hates getting wiped clean, she hates getting the rash ointment put on; she's generally just miserable for the entire changing experience, and last night was no exception.
I have a habit, when I'm trying to calm her down, of saying over and over "I know, I know it hurts, I'm sorry. I know", frequently, for some reason, fixing on the "I know" part. And I'm doing that last night through the entire changing ordeal, and she's crying, or really more whimpering than crying, and I realize that she too, is saying, "I know, I know" over and over in the saddest little mournful voice, drawing out the ooooooh sound. It was just heartbreaking. And then it was kind of funny, thinking about her learning that phrase as the one that means something hurts.
She's definitely freaching the stage of having to be careful with everything you say around her; she's picking up all kinds of random words.
