about being a Red Sox fan is being able to root against the Yankees. It's even sweeter when WE WIN!

I mean, growing up as a Mets fan, we always pretty much hated the Yankees, but since this was before the days of inter-league play, we never actually got to root against them, ya know? Now I get to, to my little heart's content.

God I love baseball!

Grrrr.

I'm not incompetent, I am reasonably "handy" I should be able to handle putting together a simple damn toybox.

We ordered this for Widget. It's cute, it goes reasonably well with our decor, and god knows we need a place to store her toys. So, she's napping, and I decide I'll put it together. HA! I can't make it fit together to save my life. And now, one of the little wooden dowels I need has split in two. I'm about ready to throw this thing out the window.

Bleah. Guess I'll go do housework instead.

Last weekend and this week, I got about 2/3 of the border bed that I want for my front yard planted. Once my bulbs finish dying back, I' m going to re-arrange how they're laid out, and then this one small bit of my "landscaping" will be done. Landscaping goes in quotes because, well, our yard still needs a LOT of help.

In order to try and help my memory, I'm recording what I've planted, with a little detail about each, so that hopefully, I can remember what I've got so far)

I have planted )

This is, of course, in the nature of a grand experiment. I don't know how these guys will grow- what will thrive, what will die. But, we'll see, and I'll take the knowledge with me into next year.

Tomorrow, I'm inheriting a red Scotch Broom from my aunt and uncle - I have to figure out where it is going to go. And, I saw that my local garden center had scads of already started vegetable plants, so I'm not left out of the vegetable garden idea for the year (I simply had NO time to try and start my own plants, so I thought I was out of luck.) So, tomorrow will be spent getting the vegetable patch ready, and maybe going and buying some of the plants. Despite how cold it was this past week, I'm hoping we are beyond the last freeze for the year, and therefore it'll be safe to plant them.

ICK!

So, we've had this relatively minor any problem. They were around last summer, and returned this year. We would kill a couple a day, and if we were foolish and left anything sugary out (they LOVE the remnants of iced coffee, we'd get a mild swarm of them. But there weren't to many of them, and all the research I had done seemed to indicate that small colonies don't generally cause a great deal of structural damage, so I wasn't too worried about it.

Until today.

Today, there were gross swarms of HUGE winged ones, crawling out from around the front door, and from under the siding on the corner of the house. And I noticed a bunch of smaller worker ants doing what looked like egg/larva minding on one of the bushes near the house. These things were seriously gross. And from what I'm looking at, could be a sign that we have a bigger colony than I would have thought.

So, looks like it may be time to call an exterminator next week. Joy.
