Apr. 25th, 2004 11:06 pmQuite a weekend...
Bachelorette party last night for the lovely
lorac. We had a fabu time, dinner and drinking and bowling and ice cream, and a lot of reminiscing. I had a great time, at least. Guess I shouldn't speak for anyone else. (It certainly helped my mood that I'd gone to get my hair done in the afternoon, and my guy had worked *magic* on my hair and I looked awesome.) I'm sure there will be pictures forthcoming at some point.
Widget birthday party today. So, for the past week there's been the usual flurry of cleaning and prepping, finished up by a cooking flurry this morning. We went with a Dora theme, and I think she loved it. We even had a rocking Dora cake. AND,
lorac and her delightful fiance brought a full size cotton candy machine to the party. That was a huge hit.
A couple people commented on how there were no kids at the party, and that made me think a bit. But since she doesn't go to day care, she doesn't really have any kid friends yet. And she's really at the beginning of the social curve anyway, so it doesn't seem that abnormal to me. What she does have is an incredible extended family - the kind of family you choose. My supervisor from work came, since he and Widget have bonded a bit since he started working with me, and he asked me at the party "Wow, does she really know everyone here? She's not being shy at all." I laughed, because with a couple of exceptions, she's known everyone who was at the party since she was born; most met her before she even came home from the hospital. Both Wiley and I have small-ish families (I have lots of siblings, but none are married, and there's no cousins for Widget yet). But our friends definitely make up the difference, and Widget's a lucky girl. Now if only some of them would start having kids. *sigh*
I'm looking at the clothes that Widget got a gifts (SO MANY CUTE DRESSES) and I'm just boggling at how huge they are. Complete moment of "How are these clothes possibly the right size"? But they are, and she is that big, and I just can't believe it. My little girl.
