First day of camp

Widget started her first week of Girl Scout camp this week.

Drop off went without a hitch - we found the bus stop and got there in plenty of time. She was excited all morning, then hit a bit of nerves as we walked up to the bus. She grabbed onto my hip and wasn't too sure about letting go to get on the bus. We met the counselors who will be riding the bus, one of whom is Widget's unit counselor. It looks like she'll be the only camper getting on at her stop, which is probably good, since she'll have time to get to know the counselors.

I waited at the car to wave goodbye to the bus, and seeing that cute little face in the bus window nearly made me cry. So cute! So small!

CSA Second Box

It was my turn to do the veggie pickup on Saturday, and the pickup was bedlam. Totally stressed me out and made me cranky. Instead of nice pre-packed boxes, you had to pick all your own stuff from bins, and there was only one copy of the list of who was supposed to get what for the crown of people. It would have been bad enough picking up one share, but picking up three was insanity. May have to rethink this shared pickup idea if they don't get better when things settle down.

Anyway, this week, we got:

4 heads of lettuce
2 bunches of arugula
2 bunches of beets
1 bunch of swiss chard
1 bunch of kale
3 zucchinis
1 quart of strawberries
2 bunches of radishes
1 bag of sugar snap peas
1 bunch of shell peas
1 small flat of flowers (not sure what we picked, Widget choose the ones she thought were pretty)

I think that's it. A LOT of food. At least this week we'll be home to cook it all up.
